Cafeteria: Breakfast & Lunch Program

Ordering Meals | Credits & Payments | Emergency Lunches | Health Focus at GVCS | Cafeteria Guidelines

All of our meals are provided by FRESCO FOODS which include breakfast, hot lunches, and snacks for our students and staff. The general manager invites you to call her with any questions or problems.

The breakfast program is available each morning from 7:30 a.m. until ten minutes before school begins (8:50 a.m. for grades K-3 and 8:20 a.m. for grades 4-8). Students are not allowed to go down to the cafeteria in the mornings for breakfast unless they have a pass from Child-care personnel. Breakfast items are sold on a cash basis only.

GVCS’ lunch program is available for students in grades K-8. Hot lunches may be ordered monthly. Students in grades 4 through 8 may either have the regular hot lunch meal or purchase daily a la carte items (with cash only).

Ordering Meals

Pre-paid lunches are $4.00 per day. Emergency lunches are $5.00.
(Fresco Foods is NOT responsible for ANY lost cash orders.)
Payment is made to Fresco Foods, and is typically due by the 27th of each month (see the lunch menu for details and specific dates).

Monthly lunch menus with order forms (see link on the sidebar) are distributed in advance. Students who do not choose to use the hot lunch program must bring a sack lunch to school and may purchase milk if desired. Milk or juice is included with the regular hot lunch at no additional charge. Students eat on a rotational basis according to grade level.

Salad lunch order, offered to the 4th – 8th grades, will remain at $2.50 for a basic salad. If you would like meat on your salad, please add a $1.00. Order envelopes are available in the Office and with Mrs. Singh and must be turned in no later than 9:30am on the day of ordering (pre-orders not accepted).

Credits and Payments

Because lunches are ordered and paid for in advance and the vendor prepares them accordingly, if your child is absent, Fresco Foods will allow crediting your account for the missed meal if you contact them by 9am on the day of the absence. You will have to note the days of credit on your existing menu, and pay for the days your child will be eating in the next month menu minus the credit from the previous month. If you failed to order for the month (due approximately 1 week before the start of the month - check menu for exact date), you will need to contact Fresco Foods or the Manager.

If you call and request a credit, please clearly indicate your child’s first name, last name, and the room number.  We will not call you back if you just request a credit, unless there are some issues or problems regarding your child’s lunch.  You MUST call before 9am the morning of the absence. CREDIT(S) MUST BE USED FOR A LATER DATE THE NEXT MONTH. NO EXCEPTION WILL BE MADE.  (Example: If you have credit in February ‘13, you MUST use it in March ‘13.)  You can not use credits beyond that following month.

If you have credits to use for the next month, please write clearly on the lunch order form how many credits you have and the date of your credit.

Is your child scheduled to have lunch, but will be absent from school or going on a field trip today? Don't forget to contact the Foods Manager to request a credit!

If you have credits that you want to use when ordering the next month, please write clearly on the lunch order form how many credits you have and the date you were credited.

We only accept cash for every purchase except the pre-paid lunch program. We are not allowed to cash any check in any situations.

There will be a $25 dollar fee on returned checks. Please note that you are responsible for the return check fee. Late fees will be charged if we do not receive your payment in time.

We only accept cash or money order for your pre-paid lunch if you have had returned checks two (2) times or more.

Emergency Lunches

Effective 9/09/2010:

  • Parents have the option to deposit $25 in their child's FRESCO FOODS ACCOUNT to pre-pay for emergency hot lunches (no a la carte).  This is to be used only if the student does not bring a lunch and does not have lunch pre-purchased in the cafeteria.  If your child needs to borrow emergency lunch during the school year, that $25 will be used ($5/each lunch). Any remaining credit at the end of the school year will be returned to the parent.
  • Emergency hot lunches are $5.00 per lunch for Kindergarten through 5th grades; a student may borrow a total of two(2) lunches before repaying the debt.
  • Junior High (6th through 8th grades) may borrow 1 emergency hot lunch but must repay before a second borrow will be given.  In general, please order in advance, send money for a la carte purchases, or send a lunch with your student each day.
  • As a reminder, a la carte (for grades 4-8) and breakfast items are sold on a cash basis only according to the prices on the menu sent home. If you need a new menu, they are available in the school office.

Health Focus at GVCS

Wont Do It Wednesdays: No Junk FoodAs part of our annual ‘Jump 4 Heart’ campaign, GVCS is focusing on healthy choices. “Won’t Do It Wednesdays” is the slogan for the H2C club (students and staff who choose healthier eating on Wednesdays). Support your kids by packing fruits, veggies, and low fat, low sugar, and lower salt snacks. At school we are offering healthier snacks to purchase.

Cafeteria Guidelines

The cafeteria should provide a pleasant environment during lunchtime. Students must maintain acceptable behavior and sanitation standards and adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Students must enter the cafeteria quietly with the supervision of a teacher and form a single file line.
  2. Only students who are purchasing school lunches will eat in the cafeteria. All other students must eat at the assigned lunch tables on the playground.
  3. Students must purchase only their own food.
  4. Students may not loan or borrow money from each other.
  5. Students are responsible for their own trash and tray clean-up.
  6. At lunchtime, all purchased food must be eaten in the cafeteria. Food may NOT be carried outside.
  7. Only students in grades 4 - 8 may purchase items from the cafeteria snack bar.
  8. Kindergarten and first grade students must have a Lunch Aide check their trays before being dismissed.
  9. There is a limit of six students to a table.
  10. Students must leave the cafeteria as soon as their lunch is finished.
  11. Students must obey aides and staff at all times or they will be excluded from cafeteria privileges.
  12. Students who do not bring a lunch or order in advance will be charged for an emergency lunch.
