Field Trips: Upcoming & Preparation
Throughout the school year, students will be participating in various field trips and activities away from school premises. In order for parents to be fully aware of planned trips, either the teacher or school office will send a notice in advance.
Students in grades K-5 are required to wear the fieldtrip t-shirt (available in the school office for a nominal fee). If parents have questions about field trips, they should call the school office.
Parent Volunteers for Field Trips
Parents are welcome to attend most general field trips as space permits. Check with your child’s teacher by the due date on the form to confirm your attendance and pay any entrance fee that may apply. Please note that the teacher is in charge and will set the boundaries for the trip. Chaperones for the trip must keep their assigned group of students with them at all times. Failure to supervise students appropriately, in the opinion of the teacher or administrator, will result in the group being reassigned to other chaperones. If a child in a parent’s group is misbehaving, he/she should stop the behavior but not take direct disciplinary action. Instead, the child should be taken to the teacher. Parents and children who attend field trips must adhere to the rules set forth for the group. Parents and students who do not conform to the rules may not be allowed to attend other field trips during the school year.
For safety reasons, overnight trips require that students have a good behavior record. Any student who has received four pink slips (earning to a one-day suspension), will not be allowed to travel with GVCS. GVCS is not responsible for forfeited deposits already paid for the trip or for lost or damaged personal possessions.
Transportation
GVCS bus is equipped with state-approved safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits. All students going to GVCS-sponsored activities or events in school vehicles must return in the same vehicle, unless accompanied by their parent, who must notify the advisor or coach in advance that their child is returning with them in another vehicle. All safety equipment on school vehicles is checked before any trip begins. Parents may ride on the school bus if space permits. For insurance purposes siblings can not ride on the school bus.
